About Sterling Zilver and Goldfill

  What does Sterling mean?

Silver in pure shape, as it is being found, is too soft to work with. That is why it is alloyed with other metals (mostly copper) to make it more firm. Sterling silver is consisting for 92,5% out of silver and is very pleasant to work with. All the silver on this site is Sterling, however there are some beads that I use, that are 99,9% silver, this is called fine silver.

  What does Goldfill mean?

Goldfill means that a layer of 10, 12 of 14 carate of gold is mechanically merged by heat and pressure to a basemetal, untill a certain thickness has been reached. This layer of gold must at least measure 1/20e of the total weight. Therefore Goldfill is very different from goldplated, as the percentage of gold is much lower and this layer will wear down very quickly. All the Goldfilled materials used in my jewelfy are 14K, so this means that 5% of the weight consists of 14 carats of gold. When you treat your jewelry with care, it will last a lifelong. Another great advantage of Goldfill: it is generally wel endured by people who are allergic and who only endure gold. Al last there is an alternative  for these people that is much cheaper than pure gold.
